Myanmar’s economic transformation begun since 2012 has been making strides. After a passage of nearly three years foreign businessmen are assessing it and on the verge of making various investments. At this juncture they need not necessarily come visiting here yet, thanks to the services made available at MBI center.

The year MBI center was set up, and its aim

First a little explanation on J & K, simply stand-ing for Japan and Korea. I have a Japan Partner but both countries are eager to do business, on ground in Myanmar. We have collected a lot of business information on Japan, and the same goes for Korea. Then we redistribute information added with our suggestion as to whether a particular business is worth picking up or not. This may well be our main aim. Unlike others, we want to act outside of a fixed routine. Thus we just set up MBI Center in Myanmar on 19th September, 2013, then met with would-be businessmen from both Japan and Korea. Some went on to discuss with departmental personnel, and local or central governments. But some seemingly returned home with a knowledge of bare facts of business establi-shment only. This left me thinking a lot; I have to think out, beforehand, where to go, what to do etc. on their part on a repeat visit.

A branch office to others

Our services are mainly focused on Korea and Japan, while being offered to businessmen from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand also. Some are first time visitors and some others already have branch offices here. I would like to create, on their behalf, a representative office or a branch one because those facilities would be too costly to set up here. Then I could be asked through Email to visit which department and collect what information they need. We will be sort of their representative. Currently MBI Center has four types of office room, accommo-dating 1-4 staff. They are fitted with office furni-ture, copier, Internet connection, and the like.

Search for markets

We do detailed market research, without discriminating as to industry. Say, ball-points production: Who could be the distributors; What market prices; and other details also. Marketing also will be taken up, to have new customers and to expand. And business-matching talks and business trips could be arranged through MBI Center.

For those fancying a new plant

Suppose a foreigner wants to set up a plant for production and distribution of ball-points. Then the information he needs will be: What require-ments for its setting up, How to acquire a licence to do so. A mere importer of these products necessarily needs a permit for their distribution. Moreover, in case of official Tenders we could submit them on their behalf.

You have specified business to service?

No, but arms imports will not be entertained.

Could your service affect Myanmar economy in any way?

For our service to be supportive every customer need must be satisfied to the full. When their businesses are up and running more investment should come in, deepening their effect on Myanmar economy. That’s my belief.

Our prospects

Later on more Centers could be opened. But in the main, it would be no expansion in space but more acquirement of trustworthy data by our staff.
