Jinghpaw
The Jinghpaw are a subset of the Kachin people and largely inhabit in the Kachin state, Northern Myanmar and neighbouring areas of China and India. Jinghpaw has the most native speakers at about 1 million and many of the other Kachin like us Zaiwa, LhaoVo, Lachit, Rawang and Lisu, speak Jinghpa was a default trade language.
It is believed that the origin of the Jingphaw is the North Triangle area in the upper reaches of the Ayeyarwaddy, between the Maykha and Malikha Rivers. The name “Jinghpaw” can be translated as “Man”. Their main religion, as with that of the other Kachin tribes, is a belief in the Nats (Guardians). They believe that the Nats exist in the natural environment and in homes, and towns, and that they can affect the daily business and social life of people.
