Myanmar, June 22, 2015 – SCG, ASEAN’s leading business conglomerate, has launched recruitment for SCG Sharing the Dream 2015, a scholarship program that provides educational assistance for 200 Myanmar high school students who have exhibited good academic records, shown gratitude towards their families and proactively contributed to their communities. Now in its fourth year, SCG has increased the scholarship amount to K220,000 per scholar, to support the cost of school fees and supplies for an academic year.

SCG is committed to building sustainable communities where it operates and values the advancement of education for future generations, as they will play a vital role in the development of the country. Through the scholarship program, SCG and partners will identify intelligent and ethical students, with the help of stakeholders such as SCG staff who will participate in the selection process.

SCG’s program has been successfully initiated over the past years and has been endorsed by the Yangon Region Government and Mon State Government. Encompassing the 2015 scholars, SCG will have granted more than 700 scholarships to Myanmar students including awards for outstanding scholars since SCG Sharing the Dream 2012.

This year, SCG will offer 100 scholarships for students in Yangon Region and 100 scholarships for students in Mon State. To celebrate the students’ achievements, SCG will host scholarship award ceremonies in Yangon and Mawlamyine in September.

“At the core of SCG Sharing the Dream is the ambition to support Myanmar students to further their education, and as a result, pursue their dreams. We have witnessed the success of many scholars from past years, advancing in their educational careers and becoming an integral part of the nation’s growth. Across ASEAN we are committed to improving the lives of people, and through SCG Sharing the Dream we grant more than 5,000 scholarships per year to students. We encourage our scholars to act as inspiration for others in their pursuit for success,” said Mr. Chana Poomee, Country Director of SCG in Myanmar.

High school students who are now studying in 9 Standard (Grade 10) or 10 Standard (Grade 11), permanently residing in Yangon Region or Mon State and from families in need of financial assistance are encouraged to apply from 22 June to 17 July for a chance to be a SCG Sharing the Dream scholar. Applicants will need to submit a fully-completed questionnaire form which will be available at their school’s office. The completed form must include a written paragraph addressing the applicant’s gratefulness to his/her parents and how he/she assists them at home. Each scholarship application will also need to include a photo and his/her contact details as well as a reference letter from his/her teacher.

SCG is partnering with Myanmar Business Executives Association (MBE) to gather scholarship applications and to manage the scholar selection process. “We are very pleased to work together on the SCG Sharing the Dream program, which provides significant support to students in Yangon Division and Mon State to continue their education journey. We invite the administrators and teachers in these schools to nominate qualified students and encourage them to apply,” said U Myin Maung Tun, President of Myanmar Business Executives (MBE).

Students who have any queries about the SCG Sharing the Dream 2015 program can contact Myanmar Business Executives Association (MBE) by telephone at 01-516639, 09 4200 69902, or the MBE office at Room 604, Pann Chan Tower, Corner of Bargayar Road & Damazedi Road, No.8, Bargayar Road, Sanchaung Township, Yangon.
