U Zaw Seng @ Sladin Laphai, a Director in Myanmar Seilone Co Ltd, mainly working on Property Development and Hotel & Restaurant, was interviewed recently by TODAY magazine. The latter sector includes Emerad Palace Hotel & Emeral Restaurant.

Your current responsibilities…

Business sectors of my responsibility at Myanmar Seilone are two: Property development and hotel restaurant. New business sector of priority is Hotel & Restaurant: normally, Emerald Palace Hotel & Emerald Restaurant in Naypyitaw, and Residence@26 & Cafe@26 in Yangon. Hotel & Restaurant Business is a joint venture between us and Thailand-based. The unique collection of Hotels & Resorts Management Company.

The strength of personnel,..

Around 60 in Naypyitaw and 30 in Yangon. The strength could be less than other hotels in comparison. But we emphasize quality above quality so employees are being trained well. For example, if F & B Team needs help, it is fulfilled well by other sections’ personnel including front office because they have been trained in F & B functions. Coming expansion programmers should bring about more training, and appoint more employees. In present property development business sector also young engineers of promise will be sent to Thai land based joint-developer construction entities for training. Please assess Hotel & Restaurant industry market, like, how to penetrate it through what sort of management Market differ from place to place: Yangon is different than Naypyitaw. After SEA games and the country’s gaining of momentum in development more and more NGOs are found to have entered Naypyitaw. For that we had got to be prepared. Again Restaurant in Naypyitaw is different than cafe in Yangon. Visitors to Restaurant in Nyapyitaw are NGO executives, mostly entrepreneurs. Theirs is a working feast while enjoying food in a relaxed manner. Visitors to cafe in Yangon appear during working hours , to enjoy a lunch quickly. Thus their needs are different, and call for an appropriate, specific service. Customer needs will be always in transition. To identify what they are and for our service to adapt to it is important. Therefore we mainly deal with quality in training.

Your industries’ progress in brief…

Hotel in Naypyitaw opened in 2013, the same year as SEA games. At first, facilities were not complete, but they are fairly so now. Strength of employee at 40 – plus then has reached about 60 now. We are seeing more international guests including those from China, Japan, Korea all because of our service quality. Residence@26 and cafe@26, though opened just recently, are seeing more customers.

What about updating present operation and industry expansion…

We are watching out a lot for expansion programs – Naypyitaw, Yangon, and other markets. We will expand where and when it is suitable to have good prospects. Present sites in operation will also see extensions. For example, Emerald Palace will have outdoor dining area and a gym. Our products are always under consideration for their improvement. I emphasize on quality. The three factors quality of product, quality of service, and people could claim to be our mission. First, quality of product our service is mainly meant to have quality of product reach up to world standard and give satisfaction to guests. Next, quality of services: it is about what quality of service to satisfy the guests’ needs without bothering to ask of him. As to people, we carry out selection of would-be employees fully suited to our organization culture. The selected are trained well and developed with the help of foreign experts to experts to rise beyond their original qualification.
