Myanmar, June 23, 2014 – SCG, ASEAN’s leading business conglomerate, will provide educational assistance for 200 Myanmar high school students who have shown gratitude towards their families, proactively contributed to their communities and exhibited good academic records under the SCG Sharing the Dream program as part of SCG’s commitment to enhance the quality of all communities where it operates. Organised for the third year running, SCG will grant each scholar with funding of up to K210,000 (approximately US$220), which will help cover school fees and supplies for an academic year. This is an increase from the K200,000 amount awarded to each scholar last year.
In 2013, 100 students from Yangon and 100 students from Mawlamyaing were awarded scholarships. For this year’s edition of the program, SCG will once again offer 200 scholarships for students in Yangon Division (Hlaing Tharyar, Shwe Pyi Thar, North Dagon, South Dagon, Mingalardone, Hmawbi, Khun Chan Kone, Tuan Tay, Seit Gyi Kanaung To and Kawmhu Townships) and in Mon State (Mawlamyaing, Kyike Mayaw, Mudone, Paung and Chaung Sone Townships). SCG will host the scholarship award ceremonies in Yangon and Mawlamyaing in September this year.
