SCG and Partners launched Sharing a Brighter Vision CSR Program in Mon State Citizens
SCG launched a mobile cataract surgery program to give sight back to 200 Mon State citizens: Sharing a Brighter Vision on October 8, 2015 in Mawlamyine. Research has shown Myanmar has one of the highest vision impairments rates in the world, and cataracts are one of the main causes. The program is part of SCG’s commitment to being a responsible member of the Mon State community, and restoring the eye sight of these patients, not only give them a better quality life, it strengthens the community.
Sharing a Brighter Vision is implemented in partnership with The Crown Property Bureau, an enterprise with a focus on creating a sustainable future by adopting a practice of the principle of Sufficiency Philosophy, Banphaeo Hospital, which operates Thailand’s leading cataract surgery center; as well as cooperation from the Mon State Public Health Ministry, the Royal Thai Embassy and Mawlamyine General Hospital.
The launch ceremony held at the Mawlamyine General Hospital was initiated by H.E U Ohn Myint, Chief Minister, Mon State Government; H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand; Mrs. Vunvimol Supprasert, Deputy Director-General, Chief Operation Office, The Crown Property Bureau; Mr. Narongsakdi Aungkasuvapala, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Banphaeo Hospital, Mr. Chana Poomee, Country Director, SCG Myanmar; and Dr. Maung Maung Zin, Medical Superintendent, Mawlamyine General Hospital.
In its first year, Sharing a Brighter Vision, with a team of 25 doctors and personnel from Thailand and modern medical equipment, will treat 200 patients from Mawlamyine, Kyaikhto, Kyaikmayaw, Paung, Chaung Sone, Yayy, Mu Done, Ta Htone, Tan Phyu Za Yat and Bee Lin, Mon State, at no cost. Patients underwent an initial screening process in early September, and the 200 surgeries will be performed over two days, October 8-9, at Mawlamyine General Hospital. The post-op check-ups will be completed by October 10. One week and four weeks after the surgery, the Banphaeo Hospital team of experts will travel to Mawlamyine to perform check-ups on the patients.
With its vision to become an ASEAN sustainable business leader, SCG has rolled out a series of CSR activities that create a better quality of life for the people of Myanmar and has recently brought a number of them to Mawlamyine. Last month, SCG Sharing the Dream awarded 200 scholarships to high school students in Yangon and Mawlamyine, to support youth who will be key drivers to the country’s future.
