Mro
At Saidin, the head of the creek and valley region, and saddle of Mayu mountain range, in Maungtaw District in Rakhine State, are the Mro; one of the tribes of the Rakhine. While they are known as the Mro by the people of Myanmar, they call themselves the “Marusa”. The Rakhine started calling them the “Maro” which then became Mro. In Chittagaung mountain range, they are called the “Maru” or “Marang”. It is believed that the Mro, along with the Chin, Dynet, Mro, Taungthar and Khami, stem from the Tibeto-Burman.The majority of Mro are Theravada Buddhists.
The Mro are divided into three ethnic groups, the Ahnauksar, the Raimar, and the Nawkawk. The older generation dyes their teeth black with the belief that it will make them stronger and firm.
