First Yangon LGBT Film Festival
&PROUD Yangon LGBT Film Festival is organising the very first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender film festival in Myanmar.
The &PROUD festival will screen films on November 14, 15 and 16, with the majority of the festival taking place at the French Institute. Side events include debates and discussions, parties and an exhibition.
With a focus on Southeast Asian films, the festival will celebrate the wide range and diversity of the lives of LGBTs in the region and some detours with films from the rest of Asia. The festival will bring together film-makers, actors and producers to show and discuss their work, and this festival aimed to show films from nearly all ASEAN nations.
The films will show as much of transgender communities, as they will of lesbian, gay and bisexual ones, and all films will be subtitled in Burmese (as well as English when necessary). In the run-up to the festival, 10 young LGBTs from Myanmar are taking a filmmaking training, and together they will produce a total of 3 short films that will be showed at the festival. In addition to these, the festival will programme a number of other homegrown Myanmar films.
&PROUD Yangon LGBT Film Festival is a not-for-profit event and all the movie screenings will be completely free.
