International Consortium Welcomes First Steps for Myanmar Journalism Institute
The international consortium of CFI/French Embassy, DW Akademie (Germany), Fojo Media Institute (Sweden), International Media Support (Denmark), Forever Group (Myanmar) and UNESCO welcomes the first steps towards the establishment of the Myanmar Journalism Institute (MJI) yesterday (March 23, 2014).
A working group to prepare the registration of the institute as a non for profit membership association, was set up at an open meeting for Myanmar’s media. Members of the working group were drawn from professional associations, state and private media, broadcast, print and online, ethnic as well as community media.
The institute, which will start basic and advanced training for new and mid-career journalists in the second half of 2014, will be Myanmar’s first national journalism education institute and will be run by a local Board of Directors.
The international consortium is funding and supporting the development phase of the institute and is committed to providing financial support to the institute in the longer term.
