This press conference announces the Inaugural Myanmar Music Festival which takes place from June 18, 2014 through June 22, 2014. The Festival features 10 exciting music performances throughout Yangon at variety of venues from local schools to bookstore, the USA and Swiss embassies, to legacy Music School, Monument books and Myanmar Institute of Theology. The Final Celebration concert will be held at Waziya Cinema Theater on June 22, 2014 at 6:30pm.

This festival creates a platform that brings international musicians together with Myanmar musicians and audiences. The artistic director Kimball Gallagher is an American travelling pianist who has performed across all 7 continents. The executive director Kai-Yin Huang, Taiwanese pianist, has partnered together with Mr. Gallagher in various music humanitarian projects throughout the world. Other artists joining this year include American violinist and conductor William Harvey who recently led the Afghan Youth Orchestra in their historic tour of Carnegic Hall and Swiss mezzo-soprano Kirsty Griffiths who serves as the UN Choir conductor in Geneva, and Saw James, Myanmar cellist and the conductor for AOC orchestra.

In addition to the concert performances, Master Classes, Workshops and Lessons are held at MIT (Myanmar Institute of Theology) where artists will interact closely with students from schools such as MIT, Amay Gita, Gitameit and many others. (Please refer to the attached pamphlet for more information about the artists and event schedule.)

During this press conference, a special ceremony will take place where 10 violins made by and aboriginal tribe in rural Taiwan will be donated to Myanmar as a gift from the festival. Short performances will also be featured.

The Inaugural Myanmar Music Festival is made possible by a rich team of support from Myanmar and International organizations, embassies, individuals and students. Therefore we invite your participation to this press conference and join us to the Final Concert on June 22nd , 2014 at 6:30 pm at Waziya Cinema Theater, where an inspiring program will be performed by solo piano, chamber music and festival choir to present both western classical music from around the world.
