Daw Marlar Win, president of UMG Group of Companies in agricultural mechanization, food-stuff industries, logistics and finance, was recently interviewed to comment on industry management, HR development and being preparedness to face competition.

Your role and responsibility in the industries please…

I, Daw Marlar Win, is president of UMG Group of Companies as well as one of its owners.

Background of education and UMG beginnings…

In my Psychology 1st year at university I went to work as secretary to the Military Allache’ in Embassy of Indonesia. Marred in 1997, I founded United Machinery Company in July 1998 with six staff including myself. Currently the company has above 2,500 staff. While at work I train and read what I should to apply it for practical use. At the outset I imported and distributed used machine, generation and spare parts, to win above 50 percent of Myanmar market in a few years.

Once United Machinery was suspended thanks to the wrongful decision of previous government. But we managed to triumph ever big hurdles.

You have been going from industry to industry (Are they individual-owned or collaboration?)

This company of our own is into importing, distribution and rental of big construction machines, and into mining. Our subsidiaries concerned with agricultural mechanization, education, foodstuff distribution and transportation will try to create job opportunities for younger people.

In agricultural mechanization our Win Motors company expanded sales of Deutzfahr Tractor and Yanmar Combine Harvester. In education, UMG College conferred world-recognized Diplomas in Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, and Electrical Engineer. In 2016 Information Technology & IT Business Management school was opened. For the future a UMG University is envisioned.

UMG’s next successful milestone was Win Food industry which was first expanded in 2013. The foodstuff based on natural raw materials is FDA and ISO certified. Win Food has targeted for the top place within a decade in Myanmar. Our dream may well realize thanks to Management being trained constantly.

In transportation, UMG’s logistics company has Customers see logistics of their big machines being best serviced.

Moreover UMG remains an importer/distributor of Volvo Bus, Volvo Excavator, Volvo Trucks, JMC Truck, and Kawasaki & Vespa brand motorcycles. In Finance, Win Finance launched in 2014. And big customers see their hire purchase and commercial loans being serviced equitably at reasonable rates.

Then, for public relaxation and jokes for youths our Media one company has been operating since 1st May, 2015 (May Day) Myanmar’s first water gliding park named Yangon Waterboom. It is open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (excepting Mondays).

In ICT, Kiwi & I Company is the leading distribution of Ooredoo SIM Card and Topup Card in Upper Myanmar. We are sole importer/ distributor of Intex Smart Phone in the country.

In mining, we are jointly producing paving stones and gypsum (used in making cement) with the ministry concerned.

On 18-3-2016 innovative Volvo brand group and Performance Auto Company Limited formally signed an agreement at Novotel Hotel to become their sole representative and distributor in Myanmar. In November, Volvo car Luxury Showroom will open wherefrom customers may buy Volvo luxury cars accompanied by our best service.

At present we are trying to make New Section of Healthcare Business Sector.

What were your experiences penetrating into other Asian countries with your branches?

Rules and regulations of the previous government were a big challenge to us, but forced us to successfully open branches abroad.

We believe prospective success is existing locally or externally, witness our operational momentum in Myanmar or Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore, and China. Yet it is Myanmar citizen owned and headquartered in Myanmar. Managements are paramount in making a success of it.

 Myanmar has been rendered open to see great competition. How are you prepared for that?

Highly competitive environment gave us thought: UMG must branch out with new outlook. Every prospective startup of UMG should remain open platform. It must be investing and innovating at the same time. UMG efficiencies need to be multifaceted so as to accommodate 4th industrial revolution characterized by great changes in biological, digital and human physical fields.

UMG is undergoing the third reformation, to create branches of Retail Network and to strengthen staff and system operation. We are trying to bring up UMGian leaders with great knowledge of technology and economics.

HR department U Aye Min Htun is trying to make an able leadership of all UMGians. UMGians are vital to UMG, to our 4th industrial revolution.

Our work will not be short lived and easy. Our travel ahead should see every manner of difficulty as well as some measure of success.

We are determined to always struggle on to make UMG Group of Companies a thing of pride of Myanmar and its people.
